Ansonia Clock Company's large figure clock, a double statue, "Art And Commerce", ca 1894. The base is black enamel on iron with gold incised designs.
All the other metal including statues, clock tower, and feet, were originally finished Japanese Bronze. That finish has disappeared which seems to be common for these statue clocks, and looks clean enough to accept a new finish of your choice, or do what most collectors do, leave it with a pewter or gun metal looking finish. The case has all its parts and accessories, the paint on the iron base is good but the gold is practically gone. The large clock is 25.5" wide and 20.5" high. The beveled glass, signed two piece dial, hands, and open escapement, are all near perfect. The back door, pendulum, and 8 day signed movement are also clean and near perfect. LyAnsonia No. 488. Mr.Ly's most recent price guide listed the value of this model as $2500.
