E. N. Welch Mfg. Co. mantle clock, "Khedive", ca 1889.
This model uses the famous Welch Patti movement that is 8 day, made of fine solid steel, and strikes a Cathedral bell on the hours and half hours. This clock has a porcelain dial ring and a mottled brass inner dial, open escapement mechanism with jeweled pallets, and the original hands. The dial has some hairlines and repairs. If I were keeping the clock I would get a new porcelain dial ring. Otherwise the clock is near perfect. Over the dial is a beveled glass in a brass sash, both excellent. The oak case is 17" high, very dark and I thought at first it was walnut until I looked closely. The gold stenciled glass, pendulum bob, and the entire oak case, are all near perfect and look great. There is a partial label on the back dust cover. Ly-Welch, page 151. This model has always had a high book value and sought by Welch collectors.
