French desk, or small mantle clock, with a rare escapement on the dial. In the place where you would normally see a Brocot Escapement there is a Lever escapement, and in front of it is a slow/fast adjusting hand.

The bronze inner dial is recessed to accommodate the lever escapement. The porcelain dial ring has many spider web separations, dirty in the cracks. Original pair of French hands. The bronze sash is holding a nice beveled glass. The 10" high case is dull, not polished or cleaned, has four claw feet underneath and many cast decorations on the front and sides. There is no signature on the dial or round 8 day movement, unless it is behind the standing gong that rests against the movement. The bronze back door is hinged and has cutouts for sound. The "handle" on top of the case may be bent forward. I cannot imagine it was made that way. It is easy to straighten brass/bronze (I am told) but I leave that to the next owner. I have no idea of the rarity or value of this unusual piece. You bidders will decide that.
