Atkins Clock Company, / Bristol, Ct., very rare round top drop clock, ca 1863.
Name taken from the near complete paper label inside the case. The rosewood veneered case is 24.5" high, crusty and dirty, never cleaned or polished, there was never veneer on the bezel, it was always just solid wood, veneered only on the flat sections. Both the round bezel and the lower door have beveled edges. Gold foil tablet, door latch practically broken off. Inside, besides the nice old paper label, is a brass bob, pair of Atkins hands, and the original painted dial that is surprisingly pretty nice. The round glass is "old glass" but there is no putty so I would assume the glass is a replacement. The 8 day time only movement has a four spoke escape wheel and along with the case and label are pictured and described in the book, "The Clocks or Irenus Atkins", by Gregory and King, pages 70-71. One thing you can say about this clock, it is original in more ways than one.
