Aaron Miller, American, 8-day, tall case clock, time and strike weight driven, in a gumwood pagoda top case with arched brass dial with cherub spandrels, displaying date aperture at 6 o'clock and second's bit at 12 o'clock and signed Aaron Miller on disc in arch. An early American clock in the English Georgian style, c1760 refinished case with replaced finials and lower base below plinth restored and rear legs replaced, the dial has streaks of tarnish that could be cleaned off, the glass in the door of hood is cracked near the bottom left corner. Aaron Miller is listed in Spittler and Bailey's "American Clockmakers and Watchmakers" as hailing from Elizabethtown, N.J. c1747 and advertising in N.Y. city as a maker of clocks in the best manner as well as a fabricator of compasses chains for surveyors and church bells of any size.
