the gilding and throat tablet were re-done maybe 60 years ago and with nice aging at this point. Lower tablet of 1812 naval battle is period, with some touch up to background. The movement was signed and dated (1833) on lower front plate, the name cut in with a graving tool, not a common method at this time, so name may have been added later [?]. Movement appears original to case and is attached with a single screw from the rear of the case back. Lead weight with duck bill hook is a proper replacement. Crazed dial surface appears old, with some chips; black has been strengthened. Height 40 inches
