English, Skeleton Clock, by John Smith and Sons, Clerkenwell, bearing the signed silvered plaque of the retailer, "Hardy - St. Ives", less dome, with original marble base, scroll frame design on 4 turned feet, c1865

overall complete and sound, original chain, dial, hands and pendulum intact, and the marble base good - no chips. This particular plate design can be found in several reference books on skeleton clocks, but most notably in the book "Skeleton Clocks" by F.B. Royer-Collard, (1969), page 54, figure 3-28. The price of the clock on base in 1865 was 2 pounds and 10 shillings.
