English, large inlaid mahogany quarter chiming bracket clock, 3-fusee, chiming on your choice of 8 bells or 4 gongs [and striking the hours on a deep toned cathedral gong, with a rectangular dial, engraved and silvered, and with subsidiary dials in the arch for Chime / Silent, F /S , and Whittington or Westminster tune, serviced by B. G. Taylor, Marple (Stockport), label on rear of dial. The case with wooden side frets, bun feet, and floral inlay on the canted corner moldings and front panels, + cross banding around the door, sides and top. C.1885. the very top of the case has a dry split that was previously filled in and needs attention (see detail on internet). There are some minor losses of corner veneer. The well engraved dial is in very good condition, and all hands are original. The robust and well made movement has brushed plates and large adjustable governor fans. Movement ticks and chimes, still would benefit from service. Overall very good as-found condition. Ht 24 1/2"
