Jones, 6 Cortland St, New York, NY "Astronomical Regulator" wall clock 8 day time only weight driven movement with deadbeat escapement and three jar mercury pendulum in walnut and burled walnut case with silvered astronomical dial, the robust movement with 6 crossings on the wheels, which are screwed to their hubs and the great wheel with Harrison's design maintaining power, NY style beat-set with thumb screws at top of crutch, c1870 the ornate and high quality case retains a great original finish. The top carved crest is absent. The last lunette on lower left return molding is absent. The dial is in very good condition with very little oxidation. The brass beat indicator is engraved "G. A. Jones 6 Cortland St, NY". The finely chased "SHEFFIELD" marked silver plated pendulum rod and lower bracket and the steel uprights marked "V JESSOP and SONS" are of the highest and most intricate quality The brass pendulum hanger and brass corbels are attached to a painted circle of brass/iron, all heavy duty. The weight and pulleys are replacements. The center glass jar has a V-shaped resin repair at the top. The mercury is present to fill the pendulum jars and must be hand transported after the auction.
