other than a new set of hands and a small ding in the pendulum bob, this clock is otherwise in excellent original condition (see note on hands below}. All of Ball Watch Co timekeepers, watches and clocks, were produced under contract to their strict standards. The movement chart in the rear of Demeter's book on Chelsea, pages 248-249, gives production details. Note the following: first order was on 10/24/24: 20 2Q clocks ordered by Ball. Second order placed on 12/05/24, 10 more 2Qs; then 12/24/24 90 more 2Qs. Last order was 11/18/26 for 100 2Qs. Total 2Qs appears to be 220 made for Webb C. Ball, We have seen this model bring as high as $5000. Bob Wasserman purchased this clock carefully. You can compare it to one sold by Chester Hicks a couple of years ago on his website, with slightly different grain pattern to the oak. Interestingly, In filling the contract, Chelsea patterned not only the case, but also the movement after the ST#3, but with their typical quality refinements and spoked hour wheel. {Note that Seth Thomas also supplied their #3 to Ball, see "Railroad Timekeeping" NAWCC, Chicagoland chapter, available used} This movement is clearly signed Chelsea Clock Co., Boston, U.S.A., and with serial number shown above. The case on this clock is about 50% heavier than the veneered ST case. Movement is clean and in good running order. Orig Chelsea beat scale intact. Note we sold one of these on May 1, 2009, for $4400. The only Chelsea weight clock rarer than this is the No. 5. Also included in the case is a spare set of Chelsea spade hands that Bob had bought for the clock, but the hour hub needs to be broached out a bit to fit. Ht 44"
