Birge, Mallory & Co. J. Ives Lyre Clock, Copy
circa 1960's to 70'; painted wood dial with cutout for a visible movement by Martha Smallwood with a weight driven, 8 day strap movement marked B.M. & Co.; in a custom gold leafed lyre case with a good interior label; the sunburst pendulum and the weights. Made of old and new parts. Not tested. (There is a small split in the wood at the bottom left hand side of the lyre.) 39" Tall Condition We regret to inform you that we have just discovered that the Birge & Mallory J. Ives lyre clock is a copy made in the late 60's to 70's. The owner had contacted the NAWCC museum through photography and was under the assumption this was a rare and old clock which it would be as one of only 3 known. This clock is made of old and new parts, it is still a very unusual fabulous looking clock. 10 times rarer than a Stennes for example. We are but are not embarrassed because we did not know any copies existed. This rare clock will still make a great example and addition to any advanced collection. We apologize for any inconvenience to bidders.
