Tortoise shell veneer with minor losses and cracks, brass elements with worn gilding, rear left foot replaced, gallery is reversed (handle should fold to the back), pierced panel in the back door an old replacement, original movement with unusual escapement and unusual quarter strike mechanism, all trains functioning, strike and alarm trains will need attention, steel work with pitting, white enamel dial with minor flake at winding arbor and minor scratches, excellent original hands. Ht. 8 1/2" to top of handle

Swiss travelling alarm clock, similar to the Pendule d'Officer style, round spring driven movement of two or three day duration with time, grand sonnerie strike on demand and alarm functions, and Sully variant two plane escapement with balance and spring under bridge fixed to the back plate, the pointed escape wheel teeth alternately engaging disc shaped pallets affixed to the balance staff, the time train wound through the dial, the strike and alarm functions wound by cords, gilt brass bezel with beveled convex glass, Arabic numeral white enamel dial, pierced and engraved gilt brass hands, blued steel alarm hand, contained in a dovetailed wooden case covered with tortoise shell, and mounted with gilt brass ornament, the gilt brass gallery with turned finials, cyma curved arms supporting a molded tassel below handle in the form of a snake eating its tail, gilt waterleaf cornice, gilt beaded and molded base on turned feet, brass corners, and gilt rope molding framing lattice panels on sides and back, c1790 Tortoise shell veneer with minor losses and cracks, brass elements with worn gilding, rear left foot replaced, gallery is reversed (handle should fold to the back), pierced panel in the back door an old replacement, original movement with unusual escapement and unusual quarter strike mechanism, all trains functioning, strike and alarm trains will need attention, steel work with pitting, white enamel dial with minor flake at winding arbor and minor scratches, excellent original hands.
