Welch, Spring and Co., Forestville, Conn, "REGULATOR No. 8", walnut case, porcelain dial, 8 day, weight time piece, with center seconds, c1880

top center trim with 7 little spindles has been gone for a long time; see "Welch Clocks", by Tran Duy Ly for picture of what it should look like. The nickel plated movement is original; this Movement is a variant of the later one used in the Regulator No. 1, with Graham's dead beat escapement and center seconds, and with unique "seat-board" on top of the movement for stability. Movement will tick, but oil congealed long ago and Movement needs thorough cleaning; minor surface rust on verge, otherwise, no problems. Hands are later replacements and need to be fitted better. Original pendulum and stick with original gold leaf (worn); good original beat scale; bob is good with no dents -polish marks reflect light in odd way. Porcelain dial has hairlines at 1 and near winding holes. Bezel has been turned 1/4 inch on mask, leaving spare holes. Exterior finish on this case is 100% original, with great patina. Weights are original. This clock came from a private home in Branford, CT where it has hung for decades. This is a very hard to find model, and finishing the top should leave you with a $6500 clock. Ht (less top) 62"
