Robert Welsh, Dalkeith, Scotland tall clock, 8 day, time and bell strike, weight driven movement in an earlier Chinoiserie decorated case with gold stenciled sides and engraved brass dial with brass spandrels and boss with maker's signature and location,

the case, which predates the movement by approx 50 years [c.1730] retains its original finish with a plain black base that may be a later restoration [seems too small for upper portion of case], also a repair to the thumbnail on the upper right dial frame. There are holes for three finials that are absent. The dial has significant wear to the chapter ring with ornately engraved vines on inner section and floral engraving around winding arbor. The pendulum is a replacement. New wood under the seatboard gives evidence to the marriage of case and mov't. Rob't Welsh started work in 1768. Ht 86 1/2"
