Welch, Spring & Co, Forestville, Conn., 8 day, time and strike, rosewood column and cornice shelf clock, c1875
Anonymous (not verified)
24 October 2024
Rosewood veneered case in very nice condition in an old and possibly original finish. Both tablets are original with some lifting and loss. Original painted dial with some loss at the mounting pins and wear to the spandrel decorations. Hands are original. Strap brass movement of the type found in the column case made by S.C. Spring before Spring merged with Welch in 1868. It has a very unusual label normally found in the calendar clocks made by Welch, Spring & Co. who used this slightly modified movement in their early wall calendars. Ht 32.5" Welch, Spring and Co must have acquired a large number of these strap movements in the merger, as they appear in clocks for several more years.
