It looks like rosewood veneer under a dark original finish with chips to the veneer on the bottom edge and a couple of places on the left side. Original painted dial is very clean with some minor loss and inpainting at the bottom mounting pins. It is also stamped on the dial: "Conn. Clock Co., Polished Pinions No. 1". Tablet is original with some minor loss. Movement is stamped "Morse No. 1". Miles Morse, Jr., manufactured movements during the 1850s at Thomaston, CT. A very ornate label inside with an image of a steam locomotive. Examples from this company are uncommon. Ht 25.75"
