Webster, Queen Victoria St., London, large bracket clock with chiming on choice of bells or gongs, oak case with carved panels featuring oak leaves and acorns at the base, frieze, and top, front door with thick beveled glass, flanked by carved pilasters with Corinthian capitals, molded cornice with egg and dart molding, the case top finished with two capped plinths with carved paterae and topped with finials, solid balustrade with central arch carved with a scallop shell and lateral foliage, case sides with pierced wooden fret with fabric backing, and back door with brass lattice fret with fabric backing, beautiful composite dial with silvered ground, gilt, pierced flowing acanthus dial mask with engraved detail, silvered applied chapter ring with gilt Arabic numerals, dial center engraved with acanthus and Aesthetic motifs, top of dial with strike/ silent indicator, regulation dial, and chime selector, pierced, blued steel hands, very heavy, unsigned, fusee movement, chiming the quarters on bells (Whittington) or gongs (Westminster), and with large gong for counting the hours, original key, c1880 Case in an old and possibly original finish, a few minor chips and small dings, carving without significant damage, door and glass very good, case top with veneer checking, narrow side moldings at top of pilasters replaced, left fret very good, right fret with a few cracks, but without losses (one small piece loose but present), rear fret loose at bottom, finials replaced, dial very good with some darkening and toning, hands good, movement ticking, striking and chiming correctly, would benefit from cleaning, key for door locks missing, Ht 24"
