Mahogany veneered case in nice condition with some splits and a raised area caused by differences in case construction. Original painted dial has some paint loss in the center area and in places on the outer edge. Hands are original. The small hand at 12 o'clock is for regulating the pendulum. Original heavy case bezel with a small lock. A very nice decorative heavy plate chain drive fusee movement. Ht

English mahogany barrel form 8 day, fusee spring brass movement wall clock or timepiece, c1815 The dial is signed "Smart", who might possibly be Benjamin Smart a London clockmaker who worked from 1797-1818 located at 35 Firth Street. The two "ears" would suggest that this timepiece may have been built into some larger structure. There are three holes in the case at the six o'clock position that would suggest this timepiece was mounted onto a stand with three pins. Mahogany veneered case in nice condition with some splits and a raised area caused by differences in case construction. Original painted dial has some paint loss in the center area and in places on the outer edge. Hands are original. The small hand at 12 o'clock is for regulating the pendulum.
