this clock was most likely carved in the Interlaken area, a region well known for carved cases, both figural and architectural. The exterior of the case is incised to simulate brick, the top cut to simulate shingles and the dial flanked by Corinthian columns with gilt metal trimmings. The steeple does separate from the main case for service of the "monkey linkage". There are some missing bits of brass trim and some nicks and scrapes to the case; front panel with dry split, all commensurate with its' age. The well made French time and strike movement goes for 8+ days; although it ticks and tries to strike, it would benefit from service. The gilt dial with cartouche numerals is exceptional and very clean. The linkage to the monkey's arm, with counterweight, needs adjusting. Overall an interesting clock for the novelty collector.
