John Hunt, Plainville, Conn., oversize steeple or "Sharp Gothic" mantel clock, 8 days, time and strike, spring driven movement in an OG form mahogany veneer case with painted metal dial and reverse painted tablet, c1845 From the Doug Shaffer collection.

refinished mahogany veneered case with some minor lifting of the veneer in a couple of places on the door and a small damaged area on the left side. Original dial has been repainted. The minute hand is period. The hour hand is later. What is very unusual is the use of extra count wheels with the teeth cut off placed in front of the springs. Very clean label inside the case. Original tablet with some loss and re-blacked on rear. This specific clock is pictured on pages 58 & 59 in NAWCC Bulletin Supplement No. 9, published in Winter of 1973. Another example of this rare clock is pictured in "Horology Americana", page 179 and is the only other example we have ever seen. Ht 29"
