the case has been refinished and restored, according to Douglas Shaffer, who documented restoration on paper pasted inside trunk door. The finials and plinths are replacements. The Boston style dial is in excellent condition with some minor deterioration to moon phase and is purportedly at some point in the past to have a Samuel Curtis, Boston label. The weights, pendulum and winding key are period. In Bailey and Spittler's "Clockmakers and Watchmakers of America" Thomas H. Perkins is listed as coming from a prominent family of clockmakers based in Philadelphia. Perkins was at one time the Pittsburgh Postmaster. Ht 105 1/2"
