Deck watch, 18 size grade 412, 212 jewel damascened nickel movement with wind indicator, lever escapement with free sprung bimetallic balance, Roman numeral white enamel dial and blued steel hands, contained in a gimbaled brass weighted case, and housed in a chronometer style mahogany box, the top with engraved brass plaque "U.S.S.B. Ship Watch No. 1063" (United States Shipping Board), c1915 CASE: Box good, finish with crazing, minor dirt and scratches; Gimbal and bowl with scratches, losses to lacquer and minor tarnish; Bezel glass with minor scratches. DIAL: Hairline in enamel, light, 5:00; Chip in enamel, 8:30. HANDS: Very good. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; Dirty, oily; Spots of rust on crown wheel screw. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Not running, good staff, starts with pressure on center wheel, needs service, box 5 1/8" x 5 1/8" x 5 1/4". There are very few other examples of this grade with wind indicator in a gimbaled box known.
