Early English bracket clock, ebony veneered oak case with domed top, glazed sides and back, and with decorative cast mounts, all resting on turned brass feet, Roman numeral composite dial with winged cherub spandrels, silvered chapter ring, matted and engraved center, aperture above center arbor displaying mock pendulum, and with date display below, blued steel hands, 8 days, time and strike, 6 pillar fusee movement with verge escapement and engraved back plate, back cock mounted with large ornamental cast plate, originally fitted with Dutch striking, now removed, as currently configured striking the hours on a bell, the rack fitted between the plates and gathered by a pallet fitted to the third wheel arbor, c1700 Case veneers with checking and some minor ripples, small piece of veneer missing from front door, upper left, all mounts and hardware cleaned, some elements may be replaced, dial restored, movement with components for Dutch striking removed, back cock replaced, contrate and crown wheels replaced, some bushings in back and front plate not flush with plate surface, bell replaced, ticks and strikes. Ht 15" to top of handle. This particular clock from the estate of the late Douglas H. Shaffer, whose collection was featured in the last auction.
