the clock originally had its pendulum suspension bracket and movement mount fixed to a wall, separate from the wall mounted case, to ensure stability. The case now has an extra backboard for the mounting of movement and pendulum, which could be removed to restore it to its original configuration. Case has some looseness, but is complete, and in good condition overall. The front glass panel has a hole specifically drilled, protected with a grommet to allow for winding of the movement. Dial with minor darkening, and small spot of verdigris. Movement very good, with coat of old lacquer, dirty, would benefit from service. Break circuit mechanism complete, and can be adjusted so that it is free of the escape wheel arbor if not needed. One beat adjustment screw missing. Hands with a few minor bends. Hands, weight, pulley and pendulum appear correct. Ht 63". R. Haswell & Sons, 49 Spencer St., Clerkenwell, are listed in Kellys Directory of Watch and Clock Trades, 1880. The firm apparently were dealers in material and tools, as well as finished clocks and watches.
