this version adds complexity to the simple timepiece alarms that were also sold and exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London. Derek RobertsÕ research has shown that although this series of clocks were first shown in 1851, that their popularity caused them to be produced for another 4 decades. All related examples can be seen in RobertsÕ book titled CONTINENTAL AND AMERICAN SKELETON CLOCKS, pages 102--107. Front plates came both engraved and plain, our example here being plain. Silk thread pendulum is a proper replacement. All 3 porcelain dials are perfect with no chips nor cracks. Ht of frame = 6 3/4Ó [17cm] Overall Ht with dome and base = 10Ò [25.4 cm]
