European, Louis XIV style bracket clock, large case with imitation tortoise veneer, and with gilt brass acanthus, bellflower, and other ornamental mounts, telamon corners, and gilt brass moldings, gilt dial with Roman numeral white enamel cartouches, blued steel hands, 8 days, three train movement, sounding Cambridge chimes on bells, or Westminster chimes on gongs, and counting the hours on a large gong, c1890 remnant of original veneer at lower left, with splits, the rest repaced with a modern synthetic, and with other repairs, mounts with losses to gilding, and minor staining, tarnish, and spotting, finials at top of case are poorly made replacements, dial good, hands with minor oxidation, pierced fret on left side of case loose, ticks and strikes. An attention getting clock, late Victorian, in the style of over a century and half earlier. Ht 23Ò
