English, 2-Fusee, Architectural skeleton clock, striking the hours on a deep gong, and the halves on the top bell, mounted to a veneered base with original dome. Traditional recoil escapement, c1870 although the dial has lost its silvering, the clock is otherwise in very good original condition. Chains are intact, quality 6 spoke wheelwork is of the highest quality, and pendulum, gong and bell are original. One of the stabilizer rods on the pendulum has been repaired poorly. Examples of the cathedral frame can be found in RobertsÕ book titled BRITISH SKELETON CLOCKS, pages 42, 148 and 184 & 189, all with different escapements.
