England, tall clock with engraved brass dial signed "Richard Cornish, Westerham" (County Kent). 8 days, time and strike, weight driven movement in an oak case with flat cornice top and glazed aperture for revealing pendulum, 18th century.

the dial of this clock was originally fitted with a, 30 hours, single-hand movement, which was been replaced much later by 8 days, two movement. Note there are only 48 graduations on the dial (one for each 15 minutes) for a single hand, and no 60 minute outer markings for a minutes. Also the winding holes for the later 8 days movement winding arbors have been drilled through the engraving. The dial and case may have started life together perhaps in the 1720's or 1730's, but the present movement is 40 or 50 years later. The hands and pendulum are old, but the weights are modern. Ht 78" Width 19 1/2"
