William Herwick (Sr.) , Greensburg, Penn., "No. 15" tall case clock, 8 day, time and strike, weight driven movement in a cherry case with broken arch top, center brass eagle finial, star inlaid rosettes and four full columns flanking hood, string inlaid
the clock retains an old finish with some old repairs to top molding on the hood, a repair where the top has been broken / cut off underneath the broken arch and the backboard behind the hood is replaced. The dial is in very good condition. The bell, weights, finial and pendulum are replacements. The hour and minute hands are great period originals, while the sweep seconds hand is a replacement. The signature on the dial is original and is "No. 15". We are also selling Herwick's No. 6 in this sale. William Herwick (1770-1833) , listed in Bailey & Spittler's "American Clock and Watch Makers" working from 1801 to 1833 and active with his son William Herwick Jr. of Uniontown, Penn. This is a very fine example in excellent condition and has a great look.
