Refinished Mahogany case has a small repair at one of the L-turns and small chip at the door latch. Original gilded door frames are in nice condition, but with some small scattered loss on the bottom bracket. Original painted dial has a little wear and some loss at the mounting pins and small area on the bottom. The throat glass looks to be a replacement. Bottom tablet is old, perhaps original, with some loss and has "S. Willard's Patent". The movement has a poor repair to the hour wheel and the verge may have been replaced and not well made. The finial is missing.

These A-frame movements are generally associated with Williams, but this example is stamped "Griswold" and a signed dial of the same name. We did not find any Griswolds working in Rhode Island. The closest we came to was a Jeremiah Griswold working in Salem, Mass. but without a first initial it is very difficult to attribute this movement to him.
