Durfee, Providence, Rhode Island, 9 tube hall clock, 8 day, time, strike and quarter chimes, triple weight driven movement playing Westminster or Whittington chimes on tubes which are signed Walter Durfee with the patent date 1887. The brass dial signed Durfee has a silvered chapter ring with pierced brass spandrels and dial center, moon phase depicting sailing scene, strike / silent and tune selector dials. The case is mahogany and has carved cornice moldings, carved paw feet, carved broken arch top with flame finials and four full columns flanking hood, sunburst carving above trunk door flanked by four full columns and beveled glass in hood and trunk doors and raised panel on base. There are exceptional lion's head escutcheons on both hood and trunk doors. the case retains its original finish with some scuffing on paw feet and wear around trunk door. There is a split in the lower left molding on hood. The dial is in good condition The pendulum rod is a replacement, the suspension spring is absent and the crutch opening needs widening. The movement needs cleaning. The crank is original and the door keys are present. This is a handsome clock and a top of the line product with the very desirable Durfee signature on dial, movement and tubes.
