Gilbert made these with the calendar date ring to be advanced with a pin instead of the winding key in order to circumvent Gausha Maranville's patent. Walnut case with contrasting burl walnut veneer on the two doors has been rubbed down to a beautiful finish. Original hands and tablet. Original paper dial is in nice condition for its age with some surface abrasion in the center area. About 85 percent of the original label inside the case.
