very dirty, losses to gilding, carrying handle with break at pivot, removable lamps which fit the two sockets inside the case missing, feet with minor bends, one movement mounting foot loose from case back, movement very dirty, complete, ticks and strikes, time third wheel arbor repivoted at back plate, loose, steel parts with minor oxidation. This is a rare clock, of high quality, in very good condition overall. A two sided night and day clock with similar piercing and attributed to Jacquet - Droz is illustrated in Derek Roberts "Mystery, Novelty, and Fantasy Clocks", pages 79 and 198.

Switzerland, a late 18th century, quarter striking, "pendule veilleuse" or night clock, the gilt brass case with finely pierced trailing vine ornament, swags, and Roman numeral dial, the hand indicating the time a pierced disc mounted to the center arbor, the top with carrying handle and shuttered chimney, case front and back trimmed with cast foliate ornament, terminating in scroll feet, the interior with two oil lamp sockets, 8 day, quarter striking movement with verge escapement and silk thread suspension, indicating the quarter on two bells, inside of case door marked in crude script "Avril 1787" very dirty, losses to gilding, carrying handle with break at pivot, removable lamps which fit the two sockets inside the case missing, feet with minor bends, one movement mounting foot loose from case back, movement very dirty, complete, ticks and strikes, time third wheel arbor repivoted at back plate, loose, steel parts with minor oxidation. This is a rare clock, of high quality, in very good condition overall.
