Mahogany and gilt case with remains of original finish. Original gilding on the case has survived with some loss on the high spots of the rope molding and some chips and loss on the door frames. Original painted dial has wear to the numbers and a very faint, worn signature. Dial is attached to the head with two L-turns. Original hands. Throat glass appears original, but cracked. Bottom tablet is old and appears original. Case is stamped "10". Tie down square for the pendulum is absent. Overall a better than average early banjo by a noted maker.
