original gilding with losses, left side panel with minor chips at upper left, dial panel with chip at upper right, top glass with chips, running, striking, and repeating correctly, alarm functional. Lucien Simonnet (1849- 1926) studied painting under Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger, at the Ecole des Beaux- Arts, Paris. He later worked painting porcelain at Sevres, during which time the panels for this clock were produced. The painting on the front panel is reminiscent of his oil on canvas "A Castle Ruin at Dusk", sold at Christies, London in 2007.
