Clocks- 2 (Two) French Mantel: (1) S. Marti et Cie., Paris, mantel clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring-driven pendule de Paris movement with rack strike on a coil gong in a black slate architectural case with four half columns of variegated red marble flanking a gilt brass dial with Arabic numerals, the case topped with a matching marble pediment. (2) France for Alex M. Hayes Co., New York, mantel clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring-driven square French movement in a black slate case with flanking shelves and six polychrome tiles featuring birds and flowers, 4 inch black slate dial with Roman numerals and gold hands. (1) The finish on the black slate case has many small gray dots. In addition to many small chips to the bottom front edge, there is a larger loss of slate on the upper left side. The numbers on the dial are slightly worn and the hands have some oxidation. The signed Marti movement ticks and strikes, but was not tested long term. (2) The unusual and attractive case made of black slate has a very few small chips to the edges. The polychrome tile above the dial has a few breaks that were repaired poorly. The black slate dial is in excellent condition. The two rear brass feet are not original. The unsigned movement ticks and strikes, but was not tested long term. Dimensions provided are for the architectural case. These clocks are heavy and fragile if shipping is a consideration. Sold "as is".
