Thomas Moore, Ipswich, England, tall clock, 8 day, time and strike, weight driven movement with celestial display and signs of the Zodiac on the brass dial with silvered chapter ring, signed by the maker and in a mahogany veneer case with ebonized inlay

the original movement is c1775 (Thomas Moore worked c.1740-1789). The case is later, c1800, with Victorian alterations made to fit this movement with the elliptical dial. The case retains an older finish with some veneer lifting and moldings loosening. The weights and pendulum are replaced. The celestial display and zodiac features are later, possibly reconstructed when the movement was recased. The hands are c1800. The bell was removed and the movement altered to strike on a gong.
