Chelsea Clock Co., Boston, Mass., for Ashcroft American, Bridgeport, Conn., for U.S. Lighthouse Service, deck clock, 8 day, time only, spring-driven jeweled balance wheel movement in a nickel plated case with hinged bezel, 6.5 inch white painted dial reading "U.S.L.H.S., Hollyhock" indicating that it was once installed aboard the U.S. Lighthouse Service tender "Hollyhock", movement serial number 99703 The nickel plated case is tarnished with some brass showing through at the edges. The painted dial is in good condition Seconds hand is not original. Blued steel hands have some oxidation. Glass is loose. The movement serial number indicates that it was made in 1914, making it two decades older than the ship named on the dial. The movement is dirty, but ticks. The U.S. Lighthouse Service tender "Hollyhock" was built in 1937 at Defoe Boat & Motor Works in Bay City, Michigan. Designed for coastal service, the Hollyhock was in service until 1982.
