Boston Clock Co., Boston, Mass., for Crosby Steam Gage [sic] & Valve Co., Boston, engine room clock, 8 day, time only, spring-driven balance wheel movement with an 1880 patent date in a brass case with hinged bezel, 8.5 inch silvered dial with Roman

24 October 2024
The brass case is dirty with a dark uneven patina and some paint residue on the rear flange. The bezel locks with a cabinet style key, which is present and working. The silvered dial has darkened and has some small scratches. The bezel has no glass. The steel hands have oxidized. The signed Boston Clock Co. movement is stamped with "A 1045". The movement ticks and stops, so will need mechanical attention. Contoocook is the name of a river and a town in New Hampshire, but it seems likely this clock was made for the Contoocook Mills Company which operated in the nearby town of Hillsborough, New Hampshire. The company manufactured woolen goods.
