Chelsea Clock Co., Boston, Mass., for Ashcroft Mfg. Co., New York, engine or ward room clock, 8 day, time only, spring-driven jeweled balance wheel movement in a nickel-plated brass case with locking hinged bezel, 8 inch silvered dial with subsidiary

The case is dented on the left side of the rear flange. The nickel plating has worn off in places on the bezel. the silvered dial has some fine spots of tarnish or bad lacquer. There is some light rust on the steel hands. The pointer for rate adjustment is missing, as is the bezel glass and bezel lock key. The movement is dirty, but ticks. Movement serial number 7541. The USLHS Greenbrier was a paddlewheel steamer which served as a river tender for the United States Lighthouse Service. Built by Charles Ward Engineering Works of Charleston, West Virginia, the Greenbrier went into service in 1924. The steamship operated on the Ohio river from its base in Cincinnati. The ship was transferred to the newly formed Coast Guard in 1939 and remained in commission until 1947.
