Mahogany and gilt case in an old finish. Someone has added one eighth inch thick pieces of wood on the head to increase the depth, but there seems to be enough clearance without these added pieces. The period dial has been repainted, but now has a bubbled finish, probably from exposure to excessive heat. The dial may not be original as there are extra holes in the head. The tablets are replacements. The bottom board is damaged.
