Glazed earthenware dial is excellent and possibly restored. Well made brass hands. Large bell with very large hammer suggests this was intended for a large or public space. Light rust on iron plates and arbors. The front-mounted suspension shroud is a mere 2.25 inches tall. Fly with four brass blades. Movement pillars have distinct feet with triangular gap between them. Turned bell stand. Unusual rear wind mechanism. It is possible that this clock was situated in a place where servants could discreetly wind the clock from the back via the opposite side of a wall. No weights or pendulum. This clock was sold by Ivoire Saint-Etienne on October 13th, 2012 as lot number 3.
