(1) Vibrant paint has worn off in many places. The hands and cuffs are painted the same color as are the hair and rear collar, which suggests an amateur restoration long ago. The base has very nicely done gold stencil work that has faded. Original paper dial and trefoil hands. The movement is signed by Waterbury and shows signs of life. The eyes are missing, as are the linkages to them. Trademark cast into base. (2) Case only. Excellent paint job which includes pinstriping on the base and the edges of the clothing, as well as gradient tones on the face. This paint was applied over a white layer, which may have been a primer coat of white lead. If so, the second coat may be original. Some losses of paint on the hands, legs, and forehead. Original paper dial. Both are early examples with "Patent Applied for 1856" and Bradley & Hubbard trademark is cast into the base. Sold "as is'.
