(1) The U.S. Life-saving Service was a government agency dedicated to saving the lives of shipwrecked mariners. It was merged with the Revenue Cutter Service in 1915 to form the U.S. Coast Guard. The clock is somewhat greasy, but this has probably protected it over the years. The silvered dial is a a bit dirty, but in generally good condition. The movement ticks. (2) Clock is missing glass. Case has scratches and lacquer that has started to degrade. Seconds bit is missing and hands have been bent a bit out of shape. Clock ticks. The clock originally was issued to the U.S. Navy as that name is also on the dial, but was engraved over.
