Wall Banjo

E. Howard & Co., Boston, Mass., "No. 1 Regulator" banjo wall clock, 8 day, time only, weight driven movement in a rosewood grained cherry case with painted metal dial and reverse painted throat and lower tablets

this clock is in very good original condition. The gilded pendulum rod, damascened bob, both tablets, rosewood grain paint and dial paint are all original and in good condition. The strip of wood anchoring the lower left side of the throat tablet is replaced. The dial mounting screws have been replaced. This is a very nice example of the No. 1 in excellent condition.

Mahogany case in nice condition in an old finish. There is small chip on the bottom door frame. Original tablets have some minor loss to the border. Original painted dial is attached to the case with two L-turns. It has some wear to the numbers, some staining and inpainting to repair paint loss that does not affect the signature. Original hands. Period finial that is most likely original. Movement is attached to the case with a screw through the backboard.

Belding D. Bingham, Nashua, NH "Banjo No. 1" type wall clock, 8 day, time only, brass weight driven movement in a mahogany case with reverse painted throat and lower tablets and painted metal dial, signed "WILLARD'S PATENT

the case retains an old finish with multiple rejoints reglued. There is a 2 1/2" triangular repair to lower right side of drum top. The lower tablet has been professionally repainted and the original glass with fractures is present separately. The throat tablet is original. The dial is original with scattered paint loss. The baffle and tied down at bottom of case are absent. There is a partial Aaron Willard Jr. repair label in base.

Mahogany and gilt banjo in original finish. Original gilding. The original throat tablet is cracked. Bottom tablet is original also. Original dial has the faint remains of the original signature. It has wear to the chapter ring and some loss at the mounting pins. Original hands. Movement is mounted to the case with through bolts. The metal that can be seen from the back of the head are slugs of lead that were melted in place to accept the end of the through bolts. Melting the lead in place charred the wood around the holes.

Mahogany and banded veneer door frame case in an old finish. The rosewood and mahogany banding on the throat frame has a couple small repairs. A couple small repairs on the holly banding on the bottom door. Bottom board has been replaced as a result of damage from the weight. Both tablets are replaced, but painting in authentic Willard style by Linda Abrams. Original painted convex dial has the remains of the numbers. Original hands. T-bridge movement is attached to the case with through bolts. Movement has a barrel click with a shaped end.

Mahogany and banded veneered doors and throat in an old finish in nice condition. Original bottom tablet has numerous dates starting as early as 1852. Bottom door is of mortise and tendon construction. The throat tablet appears to be replaced. Throat frame is constructed with splines. Movement is attached to the case with through bolts. Original dial plate that is held in the case with two L-turns has been repainted. Original hands. The two sidearms have been repaired in the center area. Period finial and most likely an original winding key.

Mahogany case in an old finish. Unusual leaf form veneer on the door. Tablets are replaced. Original painted dial has age darkened a little, some staining and scratches. Dial is attached to the head using two L-turns. Period hands are mismatched. Period finial. Movement is attached to the case with a center screw through the backboard.

Willard school banjo wall clock, 8 day, time only, weight driven movement with T-bridge suspension in an inlaid mahogany case with reverse painted throat and lower tablets and a painted metal dial

the case has had veneer restoration and the bottom has been replaced along with other restorations. The tablets have been repainted. The dial has been properly conserved and is in good condition with original paint and some fading to numerals. The hands are original. The finials are replacements.

Mahogany and gilt case in an old finish has most of the gilding intact with some gold paint on the door and throat frame corner blocks. There is some wear to the gilding on the bottom bracket. Both tablets are replaced. Original painted dial has stains and some inpainting at the winding hole and couple other small spots. Period hands have been gold painted.

Rosewood grained cherry case in nice condition in original finish. Original dial has loss and lifting paint. Original hands and pendulum. Weight baffle looks replaced. Pendulum hold down is replaced. Movement is signed. Throat tablet has been restored. Original bottom tablet has some restoration.
