Shelf or Mantel Column and Splat

(Attributed to) Sylvester Clarke, Salem Bridge, Conn., 8 day, time and strike weight brass movement flat column with carved crest and feet shelf clock.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in nice condition in original finish. The mirror is period and looks to have been in the case for a long time, but these clocks usually had a painted tablet. Original painted dial has some scattered loss. Original hands. Original carved splat and side returns. Movement has recently been serviced. No maker's label in case.

Refinished mahogany and mahogany veneered case in nice condition has some slight damage to one toe on the left foot. Small scattered loss on the right gilt column and a repair to the left wing on the carved eagle. Original bottom tablet has some minor restoration. Original painted dial is in nice condition. Original hands and mirror. Clean label inside.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in original crusty finish in nice condition. The columns have original finish under the old finish. Original painted dial has some wear, but is in otherwise nice condition. Center tablet and hands are original. Little remains of the bottom tablet. Clean label inside. Movement is signed.

Hotchkiss & Benedict, Auburn, New York, 8 day, time and strike weight brass movement flat column and splat shelf clock.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in original finish has veneer loss on the base, a small piece on the door, loss and repair on the cross strip below the top door, a repair to the splat and veneer chips on the edges. A small piece of half round molding at the top is missing. Original painted dial has some loss to the chapter ring, a couple of the numbers and some loss of the gilding on the leafs and chapter ring. Mirror is period and looks to be original. Brass movement is numbered 2375. Original seconds pointer and hands. Slightly dark label inside.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in an old finish. The two doors look to be later made with old veneer applied that looks just little too wide. Original center tablet and hands. Original painted dial has some minor painted chips and a small area in the upper right corner that has been restored. Chimney blocks look replaced. Clean label inside. Movement is signed.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in original finish has small crack on the left side and veneer repair on the center cross strip on the door. Original stenciling under the dark finish. Original tablet has scattered loss. Original dial is very nice for its age. Original hands and movement. One toe on the right carved foot is missing. Upper glass in the door replaced with an old piece. Key escutcheon is missing. Clean label inside.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case has a veneer repair at the door bottom front edge and the center cross strip. Period painted dial is a possible replacement. Original hands. The carved eagle has a repair at the right wing. Replaced tablet.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in original finish has some roughness on the capital tops. Right side return has a little damage. Mirror is a replacement. Original painted dial is fairly nice for its age. Original hands. Case probably had a bell originally, but now has a gong. The movement is replaced as it is not the type made by Whiting. Clean label inside.

Refinished mahogany veneered case in nice condition. A small piece of a carved leaf on the right side of the double cornucopia crest has broken off. Except for a couple small chips the original painted dial is in nice condition for its age. Original hands. Top door glass has a crack at the upper right corner. Tablet is replaced. Original ball feet. Clean label inside.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case has been partially refinished with some loss to the original stenciling on the columns and veneer repairs on the base.. The top splat is a replacement. Original painted dial now has a clear coat finish and has some loss on the right side. Original hands. Tablet is a replacement. Bone key escutcheon is missing. The dark label now has a heavy clear coating over it.
