Wall Ogee

H. Welton & Co., Terryville, Conn ogee, ca 1839.

"H. Welton & Co., Terryville, Conn", ca 1839. Hiram Welton made and sold brass and wood movements to others and sold his own clocks. This 30 hour weight clock was one of his first brass movement clocks. Old wood dial, super frosted glass, both glasses are original. Period weights and pendulum. About 95% of the fragile label in the case. 26 inch mahogany veneer case almost perfect. For information on the company and movement read pages 334-339 in Kenneth D.

Seth Thomas ogee clock.

Label reads, "Patent Clocks, Invented by Eli Terry, Made & Sold at Plymouth, Connecticut, by Seth Thomas". About 90% of the label remains, loss is only in the weight chutes. Movement is 30 hour, weight, strikes a coil gong. Wood movement is part of the backboard and is in a small OG case standing 24 inches high. The veneered case has some repairs; original and colorful dial in extra nice condition; replaced geometric tablet copied from an original by Tom Moberg. Period weights and bob.

Daniel Pratt, Jr. ogee

"Daniel Pratt, Jr., Reading, Mass" on the label, with movement and dial signed the same. A heavy lead dial with original paint, name still legible. Two thirds label remaining. Should be covered to preserve as it is coming loose. The brass movement made by Manross, is type 18.112. Original mirror has a break in the lower right corner. 25 inch mahogany veneer case, pretty nice original finish, a small chip here and there, not bad. Label is also signed, "NE PLUS ULTRA".

Smith's Thirty Hour Brass Clocks", per the label, ogee

with New York, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and St. Louis addresses also on the label. 30 hour brass movement by the Forrestville Mfg. Co. strikes a coil gong. Original wood dial in fair condition, good painting of the J.C.Brown residence. Full label inside the 26 inch mahogany veneer case. Good condition except a couple of small veneer chips. Case refinished. Old OG weights, key, and bob.

William S. Johnson ogee with C. Boardman movement, ca 1845.

"William S. Johnson, No.20 Courtland Street, New York", ca 1845. Movement is signed by "C. Boardman, Bristol, Conn, USA", and is the basic weight driven OG movement modified and powered by Mr. Boardman's "reverse fusee". Nice 19 inch OG case, rosewood veneer is perfect with no visible repairs. Original wood dial, glasses, and bob. The dial is almost 150 years old and beginning to show a little wear, but overall the clock is a collectors dream.

C. Boardman beveled ogee

"C. Boardman, Bristol, Conn", 30 hour wood movement with an internal alarm. Strikes and alarms on an iron bell. Great original wood dial, very colorful. Signed glass, "Boardman & Wells", with American eagle, but a replacement by Lee Davis. Full label, old weights and hands. No bob, needs to be serviced to run. Good beveled case with a couple of veneer chips and a couple of bruises and corner nicks. Mahogany veneer case is 25 inches high. This is a rare old clock.

Atkins, Porter & Co. 30 hour ogee

"Atkins, Porter & Co., Bristol, Conn", ca 1840-1846. 30 hour strike and internal alarm. Alarms on the same gong as the half hour and hour strike. The movement is signed the same as the label, and is type 19.1. Note the 3 winding holes in the dial. Old dial has been repainted, bottom glass has new putty, and is flaking. Excellent full label, period weights, pendulum, hands. 26 inch mahogany veneer case has chips on all corners and one chip on the door. Certainly a rare and restorable early OG.

Seth Thomas "Kitchen", ca 1875.

Also called a miniature OG. 30 hour, strikes a gong, and running. Full backboard label, repainted dial with a logo, nice glasses. 16 inch walnut veneer case has only a couple of tiny chips. The case has never been cleaned and retains the old original finish. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 269.
