Seth Thomas "Round Band", ca 1863.
Sometimes called a miniature OG. 30 hour, strikes a coil gong, runs very well. Excellent full backboard label, repainted dial with logo, original glasses. To retain the paint on the lower tablet it should be rebacked. 17 inch mahogany veneer case has never been cleaned and retains the original finish. Good veneer, just some scuffed places. Chauncey Jerome 30 hour ogee
"Chauncey Jerome, New Haven, Conn". 30 hour OG with the correct Waterbury brass movement, signed C.Jerome. Nice original zinc dial and painted lower glass. Full but dark label, period weights and pendulum. The movement is very dirty. 26 inch mahogany veneer case is original but with some veneer loss, only at the top.
Silas Hoadley 30 hour ogee
"Silas Hoadley, Plymouth, CT" 30 hour OG. Not many around by this maker. Signed brass movement, very distinctive, type 2.82. A late clock, the movement with nuts and threaded pillar posts. Signed grommets in the old wood dial. Original glasses, dial, weights, bob, full label. Strikes a coil gong. 26 inch mahogany veneer case with only a couple of corner nicks, no repairs evident, original.
Union Manufacturing Co. 30 hour ogee
"Union Manufacturing Co., Bristol, CT" 30 hour OG, gong strike. Signed brass movement and wood dial, complete label. No problem determining the maker on this one. All original mahogany veneer case, and almost perfect except for 3 small corner nicks. Original glasses, dial, and all the rest. Great early OG.
H. Welton & Co ogee
"H. Welton & Co" overpaste label on "M. Blakesly & Co. At The Old Stand of Eli Terry, Jr. & Co. Terrysville, CT". All that and more on the good old label. Brass movement, No. 5.212; repainted wood dial; gesso decoration on ogee front is painted gold; original mirror, old weights and pendulum bob. Mahogany veneer around the door and outside of the case, some repairs A horologic history lesson in one clock.
Sperry & Shaw 30 hour ogee
"Sperry & Shaw's Clock Store, Courtland Street, New York." 30 hour OG, wood works, striking a coil gong. Nice wood dial is signed "Sperry & Shaw, New York." Beveled mahogany veneer case in near mint condition, stands 27 inches high. Excellent and unusual lower glass, very nice full label, period weights, bob, and key.
Jeromes, Gilbert, Grant, & Co. 30 hour ogee
"Jeromes, Gilbert, Grant, & Co. Bristol, Conn". Early "1" plate, 30 hour brass movement, strikes a coil gong. Original round zinc dial, some numerals poorly highlighted. Blue paper covering the backboard, card label. Excellent painted upper glass, original mirror, weights, and pendulum. Brass escutcheon with key lock. 26 inch mahogany veneer OG case is close to perfect..
Lawyer Byington 30 hour ogee
"Lawyer Byington, Newark Valley, New York." 30 hour OG using a Boardman & Wells wood movement. Old wood dial, most of label intact, some scuffed off in the weight chutes. 27 inch case has the original finish on pine, no veneer, which is correct for this maker. Replaced bottom glass is a "Moberg". Original dial, weights, pendulum.
Ephraim Downs 30 hour ogee
"Ephraim Downs, Bristol, CT" 30 hour OG, wood movement, striking on the hours. Excellent wood dial, frosted and painted glass, old hands, weights, pendulum, great full label. 26 inch maple veneered case has been cleaned and the finish restored. Case is beveled, has a couple of corner veneer chips and a few old veneer repairs. How about that perfect glass?
L.&F. Andrews 30 hour ogee
"L.&F. Andrews, Bristol, CT" 30 hour OG, brass movement, strikes hours on a coil gong. Light mahogany case stands 27 inches high, has been cleaned at some point, veneer very good except ragged on the bottom edge. Some repairs have been made. Most unusual movement, type 13.111. Has an excellent old card label. Heavy iron dial is very nice for the age, period weights and pendulum, original mirror.
