Shelf Novelty Desk or Table
C.1890, British United Clock Co., 30-hour novelty timepiece.
If you didn't look on the back of the case you would assume this to be an Ansonia timepiece. This is a dead ringer for the "Novelty No. 18" made by Ansonia, but in a larger size. British United was copying designs made by Ansonia and producing their own. Without irony, Henry Davies' brother Edward had returned to the UK around 1885 to run the British United Clock Co; although there is no evidence of a financial bond between the 2 companies, there was for sure a Family Bond between the 2 and ideas were exchanged freely.

2 tone mahogany case is 7 1/2 inches high. 4 inch etched gold dial, 4 jewel, lever, 8 day, time only movement, No.103-A. Running but I would check the click before winding very much. I felt a slip on one turn. Back wind and set. Ly-Seth Thomas No.936.
