Shelf or Mantel Novelty Animated
Mayer, Germany, animated dog novelty timepiece, 30 hour, time only, spring driven movement in a cast metal case in the form of a dog with panting tongue and wagging tail.
dog's tail is absent. Finish is dirty, but appears to be original. Small hole in case adjacent to tail. Glass eyes are fine. Dial has hairline cracks and small losses that have been painted white. The tongue and its linkage appear replaced. Movement escapes when coaxed, but without the tail the movement is out of beat. Movement is signed "MAYER".

this reproduction has its nice original dark finish, and the mouse is complete with his tail. The balance wheel movement seems to tick okay. Take care at home that the wall hanging nail does not extend enough into the clock to hit the balance wheel directly in front of its hole. Ht 24 1/2"

Cast spelter case in pretty good condition for its age. Dial is very clean with original hands. Not currently in running condition. Ht 8.5"

a very clean timepiece in as a found condition with normal oxidation to the metal. Original paper dial has turned quite dark from age. Hands are original. Movement is in running condition with the doll showing lively action, but would probably benefit from a cleaning. H. 15.3"

The automaton movement is quite dry and with some lint and tries to work, but will need cleaning. The construction is robust with a heavy brass plate accepting all the components, and that plate hinged to a walnut box. The clock movement is dirtier than the pump movement, however appears complete and sound, does not tick, however the balance staff is still intact. Width 12.5", Ht 11.5"
